Finding Richard Jackson Fowler
|
Soldier's Home at Hot Springs, South Dakota |
In 1860, Richard and Mary Mick are living in Henrietta
Township, Richland County, Wisconsin, on a farm owned by Mary's parents, Levi and Jane Mick. Richard
is 24 and Mary is 23. Clarence, (James C., and often called Cade) is just one year old.
Just one year later, the families will be torn apart by the Civil War when the boys enlist
in 1861. In 1862, Richard will be discharged from the Union Army from a hospital in Ironton, Missouri. In
1863, there will be another son born to Richard and Mary, John Irwin Fowler. And then something must have
happened to Richard because he disappears.
By 1870, Mary is living with Richard's parents, John and Sarah and her first son, Cade, age 10.
John Irwin, age 7 is living with his grandparents, Levi and Jane Mick. Richard Jackson Fowler is nowhere to be
found.
By 1880, Cade, 20, and John Irwin, 17, are still living with both sets of their grandparents, helping
on the farms. Mary has disappeared from the record. Richard is completely missing from any mention in the record.
What has happened to Richard Jackson Fowler ? Stay tuned.....
