Page 313 and 314 from A Full Blown Yankee of the Iron Brigade,
Service with the Sixth Wisconsin Volunteers, Rufus R. Dawes
Sergeant Allison Fowler, of company "A," a re-enlisted veteran, was wounded at South Mountain, at Gettysburg, at the
Weldon Road and killed at Hatcher's Run, February 6th, 1865.
Soldiers commended by Dawes: Edward A. Whaley, James Whitty, Allison Fowler,
Frank Hare, Peter Adrian, Jacob Lemans, George Eggleston, Leo Gotsch, Henry
Steinmetz, Nathan Burchell, William Revels, James P. Sullivan, Dugald Spear.
Here is the history of the Battle of Hatcher's Run, February 5-7,
1854.
Allison was in Warren's 5th Army Corp, Crawford's 3rd Division,
Bragg's 1st Brigade--the Iron Brigade. On February 6th, the fighting was so fierce, the ranks broke and ran,
except for some.
Allison was one who stayed.
Note: 2019
We are not certain if Allison's body was ever found
on the Hatcher's Run battlefield and buried with a hero's welcome, but there is a stone in Gettysburg National Cemetery marked,
"A. Fowler".
However the regiment is not Allison's. The records
report that A. Fowler buried at Gettysburg was with the 7th Wisconsin. But Allison was a veteran of the 6th Wisconsin.
Is our Allison J. Fowler buried under the stone at Gettysburg ?
Here is a listing we found about Allison's grave:
